Ben was the last in a line of Dual-purpose Labradors from the most notable of English field trial, working trial and show bloodlines. His sire, English Champion Abbeystead Heron’s Court, has a major open win toward his Dual Championship. I had the pleasure of working with Heron’s Court over pheasant in England. He was a keen, efficient worker with exceptional tracking ability. The Manymills breeding throughout his pedigree, particularly on his dam’s side, included many English Field Trial Winners and the top Working Trial Champions in England.

A large, 85-pound, good-looking and clean-moving dog, Ben earned his championship in very tough competition with a 3 point, 4 point and 5 point major. He had 9 points toward his Canadian Championship also. He was trained in basics for the field; but, due to my work there was not much time to run him in the field. He did manage, in the few trials he was entered to place once and earn a JAM. His offspring and grandchildren have earned numerous titles in hunt tests and pointing trials. The majority of his puppies were natural pointers, had very biddable temperaments and excellent upland game-finding ability.
